Qualifier Registration

No, team members can be added up until you print your roster for your event.  You should have both coaches, and both should complete the Youth Protection Program requirements and Consent forms. That is mandatory to check in for your event, but not to request a qualifier.

Qualifier registration for Maryland Events is open October 25-November 1 on the website under Team Resources/Team Registration. If that link is not live, registration is not open.

If you had difficulty registering with FIRST, or some other reason you could not register during the registration window ending November 1, email fll@umbc.edu.  There may not be an option to compete this season, but we will do our best to offer options from any events with open slots.

Yes, all teams need to choose three events that you could attend.

We have many rookie teams, even rookies with veteran team numbers.  We cannot give any team more time, in spite of a later start or new coach.  Remember that all teams at any given event may have similar situations.

No, there is more than one Sunday option, please check the dates here.

Some tournaments, usually those with a large number of teams that are connected in the some way with the host, can request that those teams be assigned first (if it is their first choice) to that tournament. Your team would know if this is the case.

POST REGISTRATION

Assuming the majority of teams complete the request, the committee will work to optimize assignments within a week of registration closing. This is not an automated process, and we expect a number of teams to require us to work through late registration and other obstacles! Thanks for your patience.

Members of the MD FLL Committee representing the Program Development Organization for Maryland assign teams to optimize assignments, and in the past a majority were assigned choice 1, or choice 2. As long as you register by the deadline, you have an equal chance at attending your first or second choice. There is space to indicate requests on the registration.

If you had difficulty registering with FIRST, or some other reason you could not register during the registration window ending November 1, email fll@umbc.edu.  There may not be an option to compete this season, but we will do our best to offer options from any events with open slots.

Requests can be directed to fll@umbc.edu.  The process involves coordinating over 300+ teams and 15 host sites. Changes will not be considered because a team is ‘not ready’, has one or more member(s) who has a conflict with another extracurricular activity or is on vacation.

The official team name in the dashboard can be changed at any time. This information is not visible to the Tournament Directors. Some updates are manually provided to Tournaments, but infrequently and at irregular intervals. To make sure your team name is properly announced and entered into the scoring system, respond to your Tournament Director’s email to confirm you are attending and let them know of the correct name.

Teams are required to have two coaches in the FIRSTInspires system who have BOTH completed the Youth Protection Program. Teams meeting this requirement are “Event Ready”. Coaches cannot access the team roster until this is done.

Day Of Qualifier

It is best to have the whole team, and have all members participate in the judging and the robot game. But if members cannot attend, that is not a disqualification, nor does it count against the team in any way. Other members will need to fill in, so it is good to make sure they are ready for this.

As long as you have two adults both of whom have signed Consent and Release forms with the team you are OK.

All coaches and adult mentors (not all parents) must sign the Consent and Release form. Any coach and adults added to the team on the dashboard can do this electronically. If an adult is going to be supervising the team at an event, they should sign a form. Paper forms are available at check-in if an adult is not listed on the team dashboard or is added at short notice.

All team members registered on your dashboard whose parent or guardian has signed the form on-line will show a check mark on the roster. ALL YOU NEED IS THE ROSTER for these team members. Do not attempt to print the signed forms. If a team member is unable to get a signature from a parent or guardian through the dashboard, ask your Tournament Director for a paper form to sign and attach that to your roster.

Advancement will be announced at the end of the Award Ceremony. Follow up communications will be closer to the date of the State Tournament (February 24, 2024).

Around lunchtime is best, which is usually 11:30-12:30. Check your communications from the Tournament Director. Judging is closed to spectators, and practice matches are more informal and there is no ceremony or audience commentary in the morning.

There is a 5 minute feedback period at the conclusion of judging. Specific comments on what the team did well and what they may think about for future will be provided on the rubrics. Rubrics and Scoresheets are sent within a few days of the event to the coaches of record vai the FLLTournament system.
